Second to newborn sessions, cake smashes are my favorite. One year olds seem to be the most happy and willing during photo sessions, and it is always fun to see how they react to the cake!
I think I am unique in that my cake smashes include a cake, balloons (to match your outfit colors or theme), and several "one" themed props. They are offered during the warmer months outdoors (although I have done some in the winter indoors too), because I love the natural look of the outdoors combined with some tasteful props.
I try to make it easier on the parents so that all they have to worry about is their child's outfit, and the rest is handled by me. Although some parents choose to bring their own props, and I think that is awesome too! You'll see that this mama brought monster props that she was already using at her son's birthday party.
I partner with my friend Ellen Bakle, who owns a local bakery, Bakle the Baker, for all of the cakes that are included in the package. Other than making the most delicious cakes, she is so good at designing and conceptualizing cake designs to perfectly match the shoot. I'm kicking myself because I managed to forget to take an up-close "before picture" of the cake, but it must have been really tasty by how it was smashed! You can see how cute it looked in the first picture above.
In addition to the cake smash, we took some 1 year old portraits of the little guy. His birthday is on July 4th, so we went with red, white, blue balloons. Mom and dad also hopped in for some family shots! This is another returning client, and I know I keep saying this but it is really fun getting to see your babies grow. Thank you all for trusting me to capture this time in your lives!
Although it is cooling down right now, I am currently booking shoots for 2019, so it couldn't hurt to get on mine and Bakle the Baker's schedule if you have a little one turning the big ONE in the spring!
